RAM ADVANI THE ICONIC BOOKSELLER OF LUCKNOW PASSES AWAY AT 95
On 9th of March, books wept, pens cried, writers sobbed and readers absorbed to the sad news of the passing of the doyen, of the world of literature—Mr Ram Advani.
He walked into Lucknow from Karachi via Shimla during partition and started his long career in book selling in 1947. I came in touch with him much later in life when I was writing ‘Aadab Lucknow ... fond memories’ launched in 2014. ‘Ram Advani Booksellers’ was the name of his iconic bookstore in the middle of Hazratganj, the heart of Lucknow.
He was a friend philosopher and guide to me, even when I had not known him for a long period of time and won’t ever forget those fruitful interactions that I had with him about Lucknow that will always caper in me as long as I live.
My heartfelt condolences to his family. And, may he rest in peace even when Lucknow will be restless without him.
In grief
Kamlesh
